Their sound is sublime orchestral pop music with acoustic leanings and sheer high quality. Fans of Nick Drake, The Sundays, Mazzy Star, Ivy, Splendid, Colin Blunstone, Tamas Wells, Tim Reid, Trembling Blue Stars, etc.. will all find themsleves right at home with this cd. New release for 2009 on Jam Records... The 4th amazing full length cd from the Michigan Shoegaze/Dream pop/Indie pop quintet "glowfriends" is here. The band takes the listener into further and deeper sonic landscapes making this their finest and most uplifting release to date!
The songwriting is melodically strong, production is crystal clear with walls of layered guitars, bass, drums and vibraphone. Ambient effects abound through a slipstream of sonic delight. Thanks to the talented mixing hands of Charlie Piper this is top gear production. Sweet layered male/female harmonies from Mark, April, and Holly Morris bring a perfectly smooth genetic blend that is rarely found in most groups. Bottom line: This is a sublime Shoegaze/dream pop cd that will please fans of DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, RIDE, AMERICAN ANALOG SET, SLOWDIVE, IRON AND WINE, PEDRO THE LION, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, ASOBI SEKSU, JIMMY EAT WORLD, SUFJAN STEVENS, SWERVEDRIVER, THE SMITHS, and TREMBLING BLUE STARS! This one goes down smooth and is easy on the ears while demonstrating some nice time signatures and sonic excitement. GRADE A *****

New 2010 release from the excellent 5 piece shoegaze/indie power pop band GLOWFRIENDS! This is the quintet's 5th release and very strong in the style of last years "To have and to hold" cd album. The line up is the same featuring April, Mark, and Holly Morris and J.W.and Jenn Hendrix. Here is a full albums worth of music clocking in at over 30 minutes. These 8 new tracks bring to mind bands like Death Cab for Cutie, The Sundays, The Cure, Ride, Modern English, Iron and Wine, The Church, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Stapleton, and Silver Sun Pickups. The sound production is crystal clear and very pleasing. Highlights include songs like "Perfect Ending" and "Can't be your Shoulder" which carry the spirit of shoegaze music into the future. A great release and grade A all the way.

Fantastic sophmore release from THE GOLDBERGS for 2008. So far, this is one of the year's *best* power pop releases. Formerly known as The SUN KINGS..The GOLDBERGS are a far superior incarnation of that band. (and they were great, so that's really saying something) The Goldbergs write sweet jangle pop rock tunes that are as catchy as can be! Fans of the Beatles, Byrds, Teenage Fanclub, Matthew Sweet, Big Star, ...etc..etc.. ..You know what I'm taking about. THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF!!! GRADE A
Lastly, the song "FEEL THE SUN" alone is worth the price of the cd and a serious contender for one of the best power pop tunes of the year!

(JAPANESE IMPORT) Along comes another great surprise from JAPAN...THE GOLDEN BUBBLES!!! Their music is PURE POWER POP CIRCA the 70's. They sound like a blending of SPARKS, SWEENY TODD, NICK GILDER, THE QUICK, THE KORGIS, PILOT, QUEEN, 10cc, and STACKRIDGE. Here is a band not afraid to be clever and humorous! One minute the vocalist sounds like SPARKS...The next minute it might be JAMES WARREN or FREDDIE MERCURY. The vocal range is outstanding and the songs sound like the soundtrack to a ROCK AND ROLL CIRCUS. This is WEIRD, WILD, STUFF coming straight from JAPAN! The GOLDEN BUBBLES are a band to challenge you with their unpredictable chord progressions, strange lyrics, and wild sound. Heavy use of a real piano and Brian May/Pilot style guitars also add to the interest. The songs range from pretty balladry to fast paced explosive pop!. OK, you got the idea...another GRADE A release!

Great folk pop coming straight to you from the Holy Land! The sound is guitar centered with sweet harmony vocals. Both male and female vocals are shared by Tadlik and E.T. Doolin, and O.D. Goldbart.
Nice tunes, and an original sound make this a worthy purchase.! The guitar sound is augmented further by use of string and brass instruments. This is real homegrown music for real people.
**** My favorite song on the cd is the lovely "Bed of Wood" Great stuff!

GREG WOLLAN AND NEW COMMAND -
DAMASCUS JOURNEY

New 2010 release for GREG WOLLAN and his excellent band NEW COMMAND. Greg is a musical explorer covering styles ranging from pop, to folk, to progressive. On this outing the style is what could be called "a nice blending of folk/pop/progressive.There is a blending of his many styles and it works extremely well here. Greg's vocals and guitar work often remind me of the finest moments of Phil Keaggy. Musically this album sounds like Phil Keaggy jamming good with Shadowfox! If Windham Hill morphed into a pop label, it might sound something like this. The sound is stellar and the performance flawless. The vocals and harmonies are pitch perfect! This is simply a TOP GRADE A release and in my opinion the best thing Greg Wollan has produced so far! However, I am confident that his next one will top even this as he continues his progressive musical uphill climb toward pure state of the art excellence!
